Information for Schools and Third Parties

Confidentiality and Professional Boundaries

Our clinic provides psychological therapy and support services through a multidisciplinary team, including:

  • Psychologists
  • Accredited Mental Health Social Workers
  • Counsellors

All clinicians work within their professional codes of ethics and follow Australian privacy and confidentiality laws.

What We Can Share

  • We can provide treatment updates to the referral provider (e.g., GP) or another qualified health professional involved in the client’s care.
  • With written consent from the client (or parent/guardian if the client is under 18), we can provide general information about attendance and engagement.

What We Cannot Share

  • Clinical files or case notes – these remain confidential and are never released.
  • Detailed reports – unless specifically agreed upon and clinically appropriate.
  • Information to third parties such as schools, unless written consent is provided and it is clinically safe to do so.

Exceptional Circumstances

Information may be shared without consent only in cases where there is a legal obligation or immediate safety concern, including:

  • Police involvement
  • Child Protection involvement
  • Subpoena from a court
  • Immediate risk of harm to self or others

Professional Integrity

  • Our clinic employs psychologists, counsellors, and accredited mental health social workers. Each professional is recognised under Australian law and bound by their respective ethical codes (e.g., APS Code of Ethics, AASW Code of Ethics, ACA Code of Ethics).
  • Requests that undermine or question the professional credibility of our clinicians will not be engaged with.
  • To maintain respectful and effective collaboration, all communication with the clinic must remain professional and in writing.

Important Note for Schools

If a student is unsafe while in your care, this is the school’s duty of care and must be addressed immediately through:

  • Emergency services (000),
  • Crisis teams, or
  • Hospital admission.

Therapy is a long-term process and is not a substitute for emergency response.
